Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Types of Tile

We make choosing a new tile floor easy for you, and offer tile types like stone, porcelain and ceramic options. Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from the same materials, but porcelain is different because it is denser which makes it resistant to heat and moisture. Ceramic tiles are light-weight and easy on your budget, and are available in an array of vibrant and neutral colors. Porcelain tiles are more durable, so they can tend to be heavier and can withstand a lot of foot traffic. Stone tile is a unique and high-end option we offer in our showroom. Stone slabs are quarried from different locations, so no two tiles will look the same. Stone can be installed inside and outside of your home.

There are other tile options as well that can be made from different materials like glass, metal, and even concrete. Mixing these different elements gives your tile floors more dimension, and also adds a unique twist to a traditional option.

Where can Tile be Installed?

Since tile is so easy to care for and resistant to heat and moisture, it is commonly installed in kitchens and bathrooms. Tile is such a versatile product though, that it can also be installed in areas like laundry rooms, entryways, as well as your basement. More durable tiles like stone and porcelain can be installed outside around your home as a patio or walkway.

We also offer a selection of wall tile, backsplash tile, and shower tile. Take your design skills to the next level by adding a backsplash or custom tile accent wall in your home. You can even customize your bathroom by installing a tiled shower, which adds style and even value to your space.
